So far, not a lot of progress has been made regarding my magazine.
However, I have ideas for the name and fonts, article titles and the layout is pretty much set.
I am also arranging a date with a local band to take pictures, however, the band members have school, college and work. Hopefully, I will be able to book the studio in the next few days.

Main Article (First Draft)
I have speculated for a long time and have came to the devastating conclusion that so many new bands are, through no fault of their own, victims of rock and pop music’s awkward search for novelty.
Where do you go now for inspiration? Which stone has been left unturned? Which narrowest niche genre has not been prised open and then mutated into the new Pop Sound Of Now!?
So, a moment of consideration for the fearless new bands of today and what they are shooting at..
Silence Fiction is a new band mainly based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. They’re currently unsigned but personally, I just think that’s because they’re new – they need putting out there!
They formed in January 2013 and they are already writing their own songs. Yeah, a couple of covered songs are still in there, but what can you expect?
The band consists of Matthew Dixon for main vocals and guitar, Owen Cook as the main guitarist, Shaun Payne with backing vocals and bass while Nathan Taylor sits at the back thrashing the drums, and they don’t half sound great.
So, here’s what they are aiming for:
“We want to
bring music back to life! People now listen to pop, and that’s no good. Music
is going downhill – no one wants to write proper songs with proper lyrics. It’s
all about cheating on each other, drugs and almost every song in the charts has
something about sex or sleeping around in it.
Hopefully,
we’ll be like a mix between bands like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Biffy Clyro,
Killswitch Engage, Zebrahead, 30 Seconds To Mars, Green Day, Muse and System of a
Down? They’re not all
too alike, so it’s a massive challenge, but we really wanted to try out
something now in the hope of more people wanting to listen, and then maybe get
interested in more alternative music genres.
Now, that’s
a pretty bold-ass pitch, and I don’t think that they’ve set a simple target at
all, but everyone’s gotta love these guys, AND I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve
managed to plop themselves right in the middle of where they want to be.
I asked main
singer and guitarist Matthew how he felt the band was doing, and “what would
you do if you made it to your goal?”
He simply
replied with “I think we’re doing pretty
well.. we’re gigging, so tats a great start!
As for your
main question, I don’t know.. I think I would laugh, have a party… I don’t
think I would change, well, I hope I don’t change. Like, you know when you get really
stuck up celebrities who think they’re better than everyone else?
I would
definitely hope that everyone stayed together. It’d be a shame if we didn’t.
Even if we don’t get far, to be recognised would be a huge accomplishment.”
Fingers
crossed they make it to the big show. The work these guys put into the band is mental,
and the outcome is just outstanding!

Colour Scheme
These are basically the colours I have decided to use throughout my magazine:
I have chosen darker shades of each colour with the exception of purple, as rock/alternative music magazines tend to stick to darker colours, however, the brighter purple and the white will be more eye catching against the other shades.
I chose to use BLACK, PURPLE and RED because it was a stereotypical colour for my music genre. When people think of rock, metal and other alternative music genres they always think of a lot of black, red because of connotations of blood, and it is a colour included in the Union Jack flag meaning it also ties in with a punk genre, and purple (probably because its a sort of gothic colour).
I chose to use BLUE because it is included in the Union Jack flag.
I liked the idea of having a slight amount of GREEN in the colour scheme, so that there would have been an off shot, random colour which clashes with the rest. I think that if i am to use this colour it would be either on clothing or on the DPS somewhere.
I have added WHITE into my colour scheme so that it will stand out against the other colours, particularly black, as it is an opposite colour.

Font Styles 2
Pros:
- This font is thick and bold, so it would be eye catching.
- It looks sketchy and rough.
- It would be interesting for a themed magazine.
Cons:
- It makes me think of a film title rather than a magazine.
- It somehow doesn't make me think of an alternative music genre.
Text Styles 3
Pros:
- It looks punky.
- It's bold.
- If a colour was aded behind it would make it more interesting, as it would show through the sketchy gaps.
Cons:
- This font looks like it would be used in a newspaper, rather than a magazine.
Tet Styles 4
Pros:
- Its eye catching.
- It looks messy and eye catching.
Cons:
- I think it looks like it would be used for a dance music genre.
Text Styles 5
Pros:
- Thick, bold writing.
- It looks like it could be used for any kind of alternative music genre.
- It would also be an interesting name for the magazine.
- It looks rough and edgy.
- It's messy - The letters are all different sizes.
Cons:
- I'm not sure if you can change the colour if you need to.
Font styles 1
Pros:
- This font has a sort of halloween/horror feel, which would be good for a metal magazine.
- It looks edgy.
- It is interesting.
Cons:
- The font would only really suit a metal magazine, and not a variety of music genres.
- It may have too much of a halloween theme.
- It's thin, and wouldn't be too eye catching.

People
• Photographs
of people and children are the most common form of photography.
• One
of the key things to consider is whether you want the person to pose for the
shot, or whether a ‘candid’ photograph would be better so that your subjects
are unaware of you and the camera.
Hints of Capturing Patterns
• To
show the full the shape of a subject you must make sure there is a good tone or
colour constant between the subject and the background.
• Lighting
can help to create bold shapes when the subject is lit more strongly than its
background, or when it is backlit so that the haze of light shows its
outline.
Patterns
•
Harsh light and shadow can show the shape of something so well that there's not much point in to actually show the subject itself.
• Patterns
are frequently caused by the effect of shadows.
• Patterns
are also created when a distinctive shape is repeated within the image and it
can have a powerful impact when used as part of a composition.
Hints On Creating Texture
- A sharp image is a vital factor in enhancing the effect of the texture in a photograph.
- It is best to use a tripod to get rid of the risk of camera shake.
- Make sure that the subject you choose is small enough to provide enough depth of field for all the important details to shown sharply.
- As a rule, subjects with bold, deeply indented textured surfaces will be more effective when lit with a soft light, and those with a more subtle texture need less diffused and less angled light to enhance it.

Control Of Tones
· Control of tones, including variations of light and dark. Emphasizing parts of the image and colour. Generally setting the mood of the photograph.
Tilt Shots
· Low angle
Used to convey power and dominance.
· High angle

point of view.
Shot Distance Types
· Medium long shot
· Extreme long shot
· Extreme wide shot
Shows the insignificance of a character. Also good for establishing location.
· Medium long shot
Good for showing movement and a balanced tracking of characters and their movement.
· Medium close up
· close up
good for portraiture and moving image interviews.
· Extreme close up
Good for showing the significance of a character. Also good for showing emotions and seeing the character as being powerful.
