"In ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?"

For my magazine cover I decided to use a lot of typical conventions of other magazines.
I used a bold, white masthead which clearly stands out against the black background. this would attract an audience as it is eye catching and obvious.
The models on the cover are looking directly at the camera, which represents them looking at the reader. The main person is at the front of the cover and facing forward, whereas the other two people are standing behind the main focus and are also facing other directions. This shows the status of the 'band members'.
I also kept what would be the less important articles in smaller white text, and made the main sell line a lot bolder. I chose to use the colour red, as it is bright but still not as bold as white. apart from the banner at the top of the page it is the only part of the front page that is red.

I also stuck to the usual conventions of music magazines with my contents page.
I used few images which link in with the main articles. Two images show the people from the front of the magazine. this makes the main article recognisable, and as one image shows the main model from the front cover, you instantly know that this person is the main member of the 'band'.
I chose to use a black background and light grey text, so that the writing was easy to read but wasn't too bright against the background. i also took the 'Fresh Riot' masthead and added it to the top of the page with the words "in this issue" along side it to show that the page tells you what would be in the magazine. I also used kickers to give the audience hints about each article. This would help them choose which articles they would be most interested in.

For my double page spread, i used a full page image, however, most of the image is black as it is low key. This meant that the text could be placed over the plain black part of the image. to make it look like there wasn't much to read, i stuck to two and a half columns and kept the title large. the image used looks like the 'band members' are looking at the text.

  1. Rachel - what you have said in this post is adequate but it would have been really good if you had posted images or utilised technology to illustrate your points.
