What kind of music?

Included below are some links to Youtube. This is the kind of music which will be included into my magazine.

  • The Pretty Reckless - Zombie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCQ3IIFSn1s&noredirect=1

  • Blink 182 - Aliens Exist
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFT7gQGOi0A

  • Toy Dolls - Ashbrooke Launderette
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KlmIOoQ3eY

  • Paramore - Brick by boring Brick
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A63VwWz1ij0

This may be a somewhat 'random' list, but the point I'm trying to make is that it is all alternative or 'not normal'. It's not what people wouls cionsider as being Pop music.

the 'recce' No.2

If I can't book a studio I could use a room with a light coloured wall and halogen lamps.

The risks included with this would be trailing wires, furniture/other objects getting in the way and hot lights.

To minimise risks I will move all wires and cables and tie them to one side, move the furniture (out if the room?) and make sure no one touches the bulbs in the lamps.

The time of day and the weather wouldn't affect the outcome of the photos.

Although I don't think that natural light will cause any problems, the only way it would be visible is if windows/blinds were open. In which case, they would just be closed.

I don't think that I would need permission to take the photos unless I needed someone else's house.

I won't need to book a time, however, if I need to use someone else's house I will need to ask when would be appropriate to take the pictures.

Other people and crowds probably wouldn't cause any issues.

I only really need to rely on the model to turn up.

Bauer Media

t
Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing
Group. The Group is
a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and
radio stations. Bauer Media joined the Bauer Media Group in January 2008 following acquisition
of Emap plc’s consumer and specialist magazines, radio, TV, online and digital businesses.
Collectively, the Group employs some 6,400 people.
Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected
around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio - widely recognised and rewarded as being
"industry innovators".

I'm not sure if this company would print my magazine, as I couldn't find the genres that it prints. .

Future Publishing

Future Publishing is an award-winning international media group and leading digital business. They reach more than 51 million international consumers a month and create world-class content and advertising solutions for passionate consumers online, on tablet & smartphone and in print. They hold leading positions in Technology, Games, Film, Music, Women’s Creative, Photography, Creative & Design, Sport and Auto.
Recognised as an international leader in digital publishing, Future’s online presence has grown by 46% year-on-year. Their pillar websites include TechRadar.comGamesRadar.comBikeRadar.com and MusicRadar.com.
My music magazine could be published by this company, as they have a full section for music magazines.

IPC Media

With more than 60 iconic media brands, IPC creates content for multiple platforms, across print, online, mobile, tablets and events. Readers include 26 million UK adults - almost two thirds of UK women and over 40% of UK men. Their award winning websites attract over 25 million global users every month.

Again, I doubt that this company would publish a music magazine as the main categories include Women's, Mens, House and Home, Sports, Hobbies and Leisure. however, there may be a slight chance i could be published in Hobbies.

Natmags

The National Magazine Company (Natmags) is one of the UK's largest magazine distributors and publishes twenty mainstream magazines including Cosmopolitan, Country living, Esquire, Good housekeeping and Harper's Bazaar.

The company has been around for over 100 years and over 14 million people read magazines published by this institute.

I dont think that this company would publish my music magazine, as again, they publish more fashion and "women's mags"

Conde Nast UK

This institution definitely would not publish my magazine.

They publish fashion and glamour magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Vanity fair, Love, Brides and GQ.

They also have created a new "glamour website" where you can purchase clothing and accessories from fashion magazines published by the institute.

Emap

EMAP owns industry-leading brands that sit at the heart of business powerful B2B communities like Retail, Health, Construction, Architecture, and Fashion.

Emap Values;

I dont think that Emap would publish a magazine that I had made. Their brands include ReatailWeek, Drapers, RetailJeweller, Meed, MRW, HSJ, Nursingtimes.net, Construction news etc.. These come under genres such a retail, health, government and environment.

the 'recce'

Hopefully, my photos will be taken in a studio.

Potential hazards include wires and hot bulbs/lighting equipment.
To minimise these hazards I will make sure he cables and wires are tied up and the lighting equipment is moved using the handle at he back. Also, if I need to use a snoot I will make sure that it is attached to the light properly and securely.

If I use a studio then the time of day and weather probably won't effect the outcome of my images unless the model is wet and the uni studio needs to be empty a a certain time.

To create a high key image the background must be well lit and can also be made lighter using the dodge tool on photoshop.
To create a low key image the lighting must be kept to a minimum by using soft boxes and snoots to light the model. The Background can also be made darker by using the burn tool in photoshop.

will need permission to take photos in the studio as other students from both college and uni will need it. I could ask to book the studio at a time when no one else will need it. I may need to ask to book the studio at Shiney Row.

Other people/crowds won't be much of a problem, however, is anyone else comes into the room the only thing which would effect the pictures is lighting (for a low key image) and if they stood near the model.

I will need to rely on the model to turn up, but I wont need to rely on anyone for lifts and props. Hopefully, I will be able to meet the model at the university t a certain booked time.
My plan B would be to either get the bus to Shiney Row or possibly ask to be dropped off to take the pictures.

I think I have thought of everything, but if I do think of anything else to consider I will add another post.

Contents page plan

Colour usage: the background will be dark with bright or light writing. this means the writing will be easer to read and if it is a bright colour it will be more interesting. I could also split the articles into sections by colour.

Image usage: A large image of the model from the DPS will be standing at the side of the page. This will advertise the main story.the camera angle could be a long shot, mid shot or a low angle shot.

Text usage: im not sure which narrative voice I would use to list the articles, but the editors' note would be informal. This is so that the reader would feel like they are being spoken to personally. The articles could have tag likes which include teasers so that they seem interesting. The masthead/title is included at the top of the page and could have a slogan underneath it.

Layout and font: The main focal point will be the title, as you then read down the list of articles and eventually down to the editors' note. None of the text will be diagonal unless I add a slogan.

DPS plan

Colour usage: I will use a dark (almost black) or light (almost white) background and a contrasting colour for the font.

Image usage: I will have my model standing on one page, probably without any props but an interesting pose.

Text usage: I would still have an informal voice. The title would be catchy and/or include a pun. Obviously, the article would b bout the person standing at the side of the page.

Layout and Font: I'm still not sure which font I will use, however, I will add a scanned image later showing different fonts and which ones I could use in the magazine. The writing will be straight, however, the title of the article may be diagonal to make it more interesting.

Flat plan front cover

Colour usage: I would probably have the font in a bright or light colour or probably a colour that will contrast with the model's hair. Foe example, if the model has red hair I would use black font.

Image usage: I would like to use a close up shot of my models' face for the front cover. Make up will look natural and the angle will be slightly high.

Text usage: I will use an informal narrative voice and maybe a few teasers. The masthead would be large and at the top of the page.

Layout and font: Im not sure what font I would use, but I would keep any text straight unless I add an advertisement.
