Double Page Spreads

I have chosen to analyse this DPS because everyone knows or has heard of Evanescence.
The main image is the main singer and band member, as the article is about her, and he stock image of the whole band is behind the main quote ''I had to step away from Evenescence'' - this is in bright pink writing, which stands out and catches your attention.
I like this DPS, as the main image takes up a whole page and the writing is kept around it.
The title is interesting and the tag line is also relevant.
I also like how questions/subjects are in red and answers are typed in white.
The whole colour scheme links together as the main colours used are are red, white and black.
I also like this DPS because of the way it's structured. I like the large picture and small writing. I also like the grungy, punky headline as it is big and bold. although the celebrity is wearing red the headline is the first thing that you see.

Contents Pages

The masthead is in huge, bold, black writing right at the top of the page. This is the first thing you notice.
There is a wide range of images, such as old cartoons and photographs to more recent photographs. This draws in a wider audience.
The magazine uses page numbers - this makes it easier for the reader to navigate around the magazine.
Main articles are displayed as images with the page number and article title in a small red box at the bottom of the image.
Other article titles in the magazine are shown next to their page number in bold black writing. There is also a short sentence telling you what the article is about.
This magazines masthead is also at the very top of the contents page.
Articles are separated into sections. The sections are shown in bold white writing in a black box.
The main article is in the middle of the page and is accompanied by an image of the featured band.
There is also a subscription box at the bottom of the page, this could be because there is more of a chance of someone taking notice of it on he contents age than anywhere else inside the magazine.
The large red arrow at the bottom of the page catches your attention as it is bright and tells you that the "UK's No1 gig guide" is starting. This is interesting as it tells you it is the best.
This magazines logo in in the corner of the page to make room for the main heading.
Under this, articles are named and a sentence is written underneath to tell you a little about the article. These are next to page numbers which help the reader to navigate around the magazine and its contents.
There are also a range of images scattered around the right hand side of the page. These images have bold numbers around them which link them to the page numbers for their articles.
there is also a 'Q REview' section, which seems to have reviews and opinions on different items which you can purchase and view. It also has a crossword and a small ads section.

Front Covers

This is the first magazine cover I have chosen to analyse.
I have chosen this cover because of the contrasting colours. I like the idea of the bright red writing on a black and/or white background - I may use this idea on my own front cover as it is eye catching and easy to read.
I like how the masthead is big and bold, and then the tag line is white, and doesn't stand out as much so the first thing you notice is the dark picture and the red writing.
I will also use the layout as most magazines use the 'left/right rule'.
this magazine reflects the age of the reader as being a sort of  teenager and early twenties image. the celebrities on the cover seem t have a kind of 'school boy' attitude to them, but they are older.
I could also use the same lighting technique, as the faces are lit well but the clothing isn't, meaning the face is bright and has shape but the clothing looks like a flat colour.

I am analysing this cover mainly because I love the idea of a close-up image for the front of my magazine.
I like how the celebrity's face is basically surrounded by red hair and the white writing is kept on the darker shades of red, making it more eye catching. I also like how there are no stock images so your attention is completely on the main article.

I like the way this cover has the main article along the bottom of the page and picture, and the other small articles are kept around the main image.
I think that the blunt tag line makes you want to read the article, even though the name of the band initially catches your attention.
This cover seems to attract older male readers, as the band is an older, more rock/alternative kind of band.

First Blog?

so, I've been asked to do my first blog. A bad idea because I'm not too good with computers..

First blogs in media are apparently meant to be about the assignment and show that you understand what you're doing. So, I know that for the course I have to create a Music Magazine's front cover, contents page and double page spread. I also understand that everything has to be original, including images and articles.
everything has to be colourful and lively.
